Kuba cloth wall panel, 232 x 65 cm. Condition: as pictured. In 20th‑century Paris, artists such as Matisse and Picasso admired Kuba textiles—Matisse for their color and composition, Picasso for their abstract rhythmic geometry that fed into Cubist thought. Each Kuba panel is handwoven by Congolese artisans from raffia fibers and finished with detailed techniques including embroidery, cut‑pile and appliqué. Motifs are unique rather than simply repeated, and each piece shows the character and irregularities inherent to handmade textiles.
