This is an original 1886 French edition of Captain Mayne-Reid’s Les Forêts Vierges, translated by E. Delauney and published in Rouen by Mégard et Cie. The red cloth hardcover is decorated with vines, flowers and three small birds, and retains a gilt title; the text includes several black-and-white engraved illustrations evoking Victorian adventure literature.
