Description

A four-volume 1771 Paris edition of Histoire des Douze Césars by Suetonius, translated into French by Henri Ophellot de La Pause. This 18th-century French edition includes philosophical essays and annotations characteristic of contemporary classical scholarship.

The volumes are bound in traditional leather with gilt floral spine tooling and red title labels. Interiors were printed letterpress; title pages use red-and-black printing with classical decorative engravings. The paper shows natural age toning and a warm patina developed over two and a half centuries.
